teALCHEMY travelled to the other side of the pond to visit the picturesque country of Morocco, known for its authentic cuisine, spices and historic sites and other landmarks. Lynda Budd, the teALCHEMIST along with her daughter Maddy stayed at the bustling city of Marrakesh (The Red City), the major city in the northwest African nation of Morocco. With its humid temperatures all year round, this makes it the perfect place to come visit at least once in your life.
During our stay here in Marrakesh, we got to explore all the finest that there was to offer in the tea and food markets. We got right into it! While exploring the city, we visited the markets each day for fresh vegetables, aromatic spice shops that overwhelmed the senses, fresh meats, nuts and dried fruits. We also met with a local herbalist.
Visiting Morocco was a culture shock! Everything about the country is so unique, the people, the flavourful spicey tajine dishes, gem colored fabrics and bustling markets. Moroccan Mint tea is served in cafes, restaurants, carpet shops and throughout the Medena. Always served with sugar cubes, Moroccan style gold and colourful glass tea cups, metal, copper and bronze serving vessels. You just need your magic carpet.
Of course our stay wouldn’t have been complete without taking a cooking class and learning how to make Moroccan Tajine, a slow-cooked savory stew which is typically made with meats, poultry, fish, vegetables and varying spices. Maddy and I experienced cooking on the roof top of our hotel overlooking the spectacular city.
